Emerging-Market Debt Ends Little Changed; Venezuela Recovers

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Emerging-market debt made ground on U.S. Treasury‘s Friday but bond prices were little changed as investors continued to focus on bank closings in Venezuela. Moves by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to take over or close banks have brought in an additional element of political risk on top of the already-souring economy. The leftist leader’s actions sparked a run on the bank and weighed on sovereign notes in the previous session but bonds recovered some of their losses Friday even as the Venezuelan government announced that it will take over and temporarily shut three banks that failed to …(continue reading)
