Fines total 58,000 reales (34,110 US dollars).

Brazilian President-elect Dilma Rousseff has been fined once more by the electoral court for allegedly initiating her campaign activities before the official designated period, according to official sources. Rousseff was fined 5,000 reales, or around 2,940 US dollars, by the Superior Electoral Tribunal due to her televised appearance as presidencial candidate on a regional state television programme. She appeared in a clip for the PT workers’ party in Brazil.

Judge Henrique Neves ratified his decision, saying that the programme aired six days before the official designated period for the commencement of campaign activities. Rousseff was elected during a runoff vote held on October 31, with 56 percent of the votes. She has already been fined eleven times on similar charges. The fines total around 58,000 reales, or 34,110 US dollars. Rousseff has payed 16,000 reales (9,410 US dollars). The remaining fines will only be cancelled once the appeals presented by the PT party are examined and approved by the electoral court.
