Brazil has the highest real interest rates of any big economy. Are they a barrier to growth? Is Brazil’s government relying too much on monetary policy in its fight against inflation? Will fiscal policy share the load under the country’s new government from January 1?

Beyondbrics is giving you the opportunity to put these and any other questions to Henrique Meirelles, head of the central bank throughout president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s eight years in power.

Meirelles is one of the world’s most respected central bankers and is regarded as the most hawkish figure in the Lula administration. As he prepares to hand over to Alexandre Tombini, a close colleague at the central bank, he has agreed to answer questions from beyondbrics readers on anything from his record in the job to the outlook for Brazil’s economy and the role of the financial sector.

Please submit questions by email – in English or Portuguese – to askbb@ft.com before the end of Monday December 6. Beyondbrics will send a selection of them to Meirelles and publish his answers on beyondbrics in mid-December.
