Chile, Peru and Colombia join bourses

Roll up! Roll up! Latin America’s newest market – the tie-up of Chilean, Peruvian and Colombian bolsas – has named a May 30 launch day.

After a long testing period to iron out technological, regulatory, clearing and settlement kinks, Mila, the second biggest exchange in the region (by market capitalisation), is almost ready for business.

The decision was made only after “two cycles of comprehensive functional tests conducted exchanges and securities depositories in the three countries …met all technical and operational requirements demanded by the market,” the bolsas said today in a statement.

From April 25, brokers will be invited to enlist on Mila. “Committee members believe that this deadline is necessary so that all members can access the platform, become familiar with it and feel the confidence to negotiate as if they were doing in their local markets,” the bolsas said.
